Oil Change

Oil Changes & Fluid Services in Sandston, VA

An oil change is the cheapest chance anyone gets to look at your whole car, and most places waste it. We don't. Every service here comes with our free 16-point check — the same one we've run for four decades — and we photograph anything worth showing you.

That check is a health report, not a sales pitch. If everything is fine, we will tell you everything is fine, and you'll pay for an oil change and nothing else.

What you get

Every oil & fluid services job includes

  • Drain, new filter, refill to factory spec
  • Free 16-point vehicle inspection with photos
  • Tire pressure set, tread checked, rotation quoted if needed
  • All under-hood fluids topped and checked for condition
  • Belts, hoses and battery terminals looked at
  • Reset of the maintenance minder where equipped
  • Old parts kept if you want to see them

Free with every service

The 16-point vehicle check, with photos of anything worth showing you. It is a health report, not a sales pitch — and it does not apply to state inspections, which are a separate state-regulated procedure.

Conventional, synthetic blend, or full synthetic

Use what the manufacturer put in the book. If your car calls for 0W-20 full synthetic, conventional oil is not a bargain — it's a slow, expensive mistake in a modern engine with variable valve timing and a turbo.

If your car is older and calls for 5W-30 conventional, you do not need to be talked into synthetic to feel like a good owner. We'll tell you which one you are and we won't make it complicated.

The fluids nobody thinks about until they cost $4,000

We're a BG shop. That matters most on the fluids that never get changed: automatic transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, power steering, and the induction system.

A transmission service on schedule costs a few hundred dollars. A transmission costs several thousand and takes your car off the road for a week. Brake fluid absorbs water out of the air, and water boils — which is a problem in a system whose entire job is not boiling on the way down a hill.

None of these are urgent this afternoon. All of them are cheaper than what they prevent.

  • Transmission fluid & filter service
  • Coolant flush and system pressure test
  • Brake fluid exchange (moisture-tested first)
  • Power steering service
  • Fuel and induction system cleaning
  • Differential and transfer case service
The staff are professional and explains everything very clearly. They are honest and transparent with no attempts to upsell unnecessary services. I highly recommend this shop for reliable work.

Oil & Fluid Services

Oil & Fluid Services — questions we get asked

How often should I change my oil?

Follow the manufacturer's interval in your owner's manual, or the maintenance minder if your car has one. For most modern cars on full synthetic that's 5,000 to 7,500 miles. Short trips, heavy idling and towing all shorten it — and Sandston is a short-trip town.

Is the 16-point inspection really free?

Yes, with every service. The one exception is a state inspection — that is a separate, state-regulated procedure and the two are not the same thing.

Do you use BG products?

We do. BG fluids and their protection plans are what we stock for transmission, coolant, brake and induction services.

Can you service my transmission if it has never been serviced?

Bring it in and let us look first. On a high-mileage transmission that has never been touched, we'll tell you honestly whether a service is a good idea or whether you're better off leaving it alone. That answer depends on the vehicle, and anyone who gives it to you over the phone is guessing.
